QEMSCAN 4 is a high resolution scan giving fine detail of mineral grains and pore lining phases.
|QEMSCAN 4 Key features|
|Scan area||4 x 4 mm|
|Scan resolution||4 μm|
|Mineralogy data points||1 million|
|Standard deliverables||Modal mineralogy
Mineral maps and Porosity of rock
|Minimum project size||6 samples|
The QEMSCAN 4 service is ideal for mineralogy and textural studies of fine grained material and provides detailed mineral association data like pore lining phases.
|Pore/grain size distribution||Grain size histograms and data tables for mineral phases of interest or pore space. Grouped by depth, lithotype or individual cuttings.|
|Cuttings lithotyping||Determination of up to 5 lithotypes per sample and reporting of agreed rock properties per lithotype.|
|Cuttings porosity||QEMSCAN measured and calculated per sample, lithotype or individual cuttings, as agreed.|
|Individual cuttings reporting||Quantification of agreed rock properties per individual cutting in a sample.|
|Heavy mineral grain counts||Additional reporting of heavy mineral data in grain count rather than area percent format. May include digital grain size sieving.|
|Coal quantification||Manual editing of low BSE phases (coal, organic material) that occur as large particles (not nanometer organic matter quantification).|
A reservoir quality geologist needs to understand the porosity and permeability of the reservoir unit of a given well because the flow rates are lower than expected. There is no core from this well, so we design a QEMSCAN 4 project using cuttings to study pore lining phases. We scan 12 samples from the reservoir unit at 4 μm.
|Cuttings porosity add-on||12|
|Pore-size distribution add-on||12|
|Project management days||1|
